A note from our Board Chair

BLCI has long recognized that underserved communities, especially those of color, suffer from a disproportional lack of access to preventative health care and educational and economic opportunities. The recent pandemic has starkly exposed these weaknesses and the underlying and chronic unfairness of this reality.

Breaking the cycle of poverty with all its attendant evils continues to be BLCI’s mission. Changing the trajectory of our students lives via their obtainment of college degrees addresses the core problem of lack of opportunity and creates economic empowerment. Please support BLCI’s success in continuing to provide a pathway for our students to achieve life-changing transformations. Your support is as appreciated as it is critical during this challenging time.

Current Status of our Programs

Since the shelter in place order took effect, we have transitioned our program and workshops completely online. BLCI is proud to have moved online quickly to continue our much need afterschool programs. Our support, motivation, and engagement of our students and families is paramount during these unprecedented time.

Our workshops take place during their regularly scheduled times – Monday – Wednesday. Tutoring takes place on Thursdays. Our program follows the ABC of College Success:

  • A – Academic Support

  • B – Building Skills

  • C – College Knowledge

In addition, we continue our parent engagement program. Our monthly parent meetings take place the fourth Tuesday of the month. We have added some additional parenting resources, as well, to help deal with all the changes taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
